Digital Literacy Projects

Be Connected Program

NIECH has partnered with the Good Things Foundation since 2019, to deliver the Be Connected Program –
an Australian Government initiative. During the last 6 years, NIECH has trained more than 600 Digital Mentors
to assist people over the age of 50 years to improve their digital skills. These workshops were facilitated in all 29 Neighbourhood Houses in the Network, equipping the participants with skills, confidence and resources to begin their journey as Digital Mentors.

These mentors – ranging from postgraduate university students to community volunteers – are now actively bridging the digital divide, formally, as volunteers in Neighbourhood Houses as well as informally, assisting their family and friends.

AI Digital Literacy

In late 2025, NIECH also partnered with the Good Things Foundation Australia to become one of 10 AI Literacy Hubs in Australia. The aim of this program is to provide free support to people who are digitally excluded (including older people, migrants and refugees) to learn what AI is and how to use it.  The workshops focus on a range of AI essentials including safety and practical uses for everyday life, learning and work.

The AI Hub is part of the AI for Good program, supported by Telstra, Microsoft, LinkedIn and the National AI Centre.
